Rather disappointing start to 2013, after having such high hopes last year. Beyond life drawing, haven't done anything creative. I plan to enter a local art prize, and if that happens a piece will be produced in the next month. The themes are "Wetlands" or "Water Sustainability". I did the former theme last year, so I want to try the latter this year. I have some ideas, but am not sure if they will exactly work. I'm keen on making it a pastel piece though. What my artwork lacked in last years art prize was oomph. The judges only bothered with pictures that captured the eye from a distance, so that's precisely what I'm going to aim for this year.
Besides that, I have a request for a portrait photo-drawing to do. There's always deviantart stock photos to draw to, which I've been collecting for such a purpose. Just lacking motivation at the moment. Been brainstorming how I can get my art out to people, and make a bit of money in the mean time, and the only thing I can think of is quick portrait drawing. I usually draw portraits from photos, and drawing from life is a bit different, and not something I'm very experienced at. I made a point of drawing a 15 minute portrait in the last life drawing session, and I think it was okay, but something that someone would pay $5 for? I don't know. Would a customer have the patience to sit for 15 minutes too? I don't know. If I cut the time and price down, the quality decreases, and I think getting customers to begin with could be trouble. I'd have to work long days to make a living. I guess it is something to try out at least. I have a habit of talking myself out of ideas. It may be more successful than I could ever imagine. I'm rather critical of my artwork, but I do notice other people seem to like it.
